The Citizens Advice Bureaux Service
(over 1054 CAB outlets in the UK) is valued as a confidential and impartial
advisory service offered by a voluntary organisation, which covers
the widest possible range of subjects, and is sensitive to emerging
social trends and defects in legislation.The National Association of
Citizens Advice Bureaux employs a central office staff and area officers
to support the Service in the development of new bureaux, training,
registration and the maintenance of standards. Central Office also
produces the main Information system, updated monthly. Additionally,
the information staff provide a telephone and postal consultancy service
to bureaux. Last year, the bureaux dealt with 6.5 million new enquiries
and this cumulative experience is often used by Government and other
committees of enquiry. Central office has no facilities for advice
giving to the general public who should be referred to their local
bureau.
Counsel and care is a registered national
charity providing information and advice for older people over 60,
their carers, friends and relatives on a wide range of subjects such
as welfare benefits, accommodation, community care and hospital discharge.
